How to Create a GoogleMap

1. Go to GoogleMaps, follow the "Sign In" link in the upper right (use Firefox as your browser . . . DO NOT USE SAFARI).

2. Sign in with your Google Account. If you don't have a Google Account, create a new one (you will need one eventually to create your Blogger pages for the Drift assignments).

3. Select the "My Maps" link in the upper left.

4. Click "Create New Map" and name your map. Click "Done."

5. Zoom in to your starting point.

6. Activate the Icon menu by clicking on the Edit button in the lower right.

7. Select a Placemark by clicking once on the "Add a Placemark" icon. The placemark will appear on the map right behind the placemark icon.

8. Click, hold, and drag the placemark to your start point. Unclick to drop.

9. Click on the Placemark icon to Edit the Title and add cross streets to the Description field.

10. Press the "icon" link in the upper right to modify the type of icon you wish to use for your Placemark.

11. When you are done, this dialog window will appear when a viewer clicks on the Placemark.

12. Click on "Link to this page" in the upper right.

13. Copy the long URL in the dialog window.

14. Go to TinyUrl.com and paste the long URL into the open field, then click the "Make TinyURL!" button.

15. Copy the new shorter URL and paste it into your Drift 01 Start Point comment on the Course Blog.

16. Repeat steps 5-10 to insert Start Points for Drifts 2 and 3, as well as sites of interesting sounds, images, and other encounters you experienced on your walks.
