How to Create a GoogleMap 1. Go to GoogleMaps, follow the "Sign In" link in the upper right (use Firefox as your browser . . . DO NOT USE SAFARI).

2. Sign in with your Google Account. If you don't have a Google Account, create a new one (you will need one eventually to create your Blogger pages for the Drift assignments).

3. Select the "My Maps" link in the upper left. |
4. Click "Create New Map" and name your map. Click "Done."

5. Zoom in to your starting point.
|
6. Activate the Icon menu by clicking on the Edit button in the lower right.
|
7. Select a Placemark by clicking once on the "Add a Placemark" icon. The placemark will appear on the map right behind the placemark icon.
|
8. Click, hold, and drag the placemark to your start point. Unclick to drop.
|
9. Click on the Placemark icon to Edit the Title and add cross streets to the Description field.
|
10. Press the "icon" link in the upper right to modify the type of icon you wish to use for your Placemark.
|
11. When you are done, this dialog window will appear when a viewer clicks on the Placemark.

12. Click on "Link to this page" in the upper right.
|
13. Copy the long URL in the dialog window.
|
14. Go to TinyUrl.com and paste the long URL into the open field, then click the "Make TinyURL!" button.
|
15. Copy the new shorter URL and paste it into your Drift 01 Start Point comment on the Course Blog.

16. Repeat steps 5-10 to insert Start Points for Drifts 2 and 3, as well as sites of interesting sounds, images, and other encounters you experienced on your walks.
